There are so many ways you can help READ while you work - from putting out some READ collection tins to helping us get corporate sponsorship from your employer.
Getting involved with a charity like READ at work can be great for teambuilding and motivating your employees, colleagues or customers by improving the credentials of your company or organisation. It will also make a great difference for us! So it is win-win for everyone involved - an integral part of our philosophy here at READ.
So far we have sent 850,000 textbooks to East Africa and changed the stories of over 300,000 people. When we give a book it is not the end of the line but the beginning of something else... a good story, for thousands. With your help we could change thousands more stories and help young people in the UK and East Africa reach their potential...
Many companies have budgets to support charities but you must contact the central office here at READ before approaching any staff at your company to check if we have any prior relationships with them, and to ensure we consider tax and VAT implications, along with taking fundraising regulations into account. You can check this by emailing rose.blackie@readinternational.org.uk. Our experienced staff may also be able to assist you in producing a strong proposal asking for the company's support.

Put out some charity tins!
Email rose.blackie@readinternational.org.uk to organise this
Get all your colleagues involved in some team/competitive fundraising!
Why not take up one of our fundraising challenges to build better relationships with your staff or colleagues and introduce some fun into work life. Or how about some friendly competition in the office to see who can raise the most for READ! See our Fundraising Ideas page where you can also download resources such as sponsorship forms.
Nominate READ as your work 'Charity of the Year'
To consolidate your fundraising efforts above and make a bigger impact for us and for your company or organisation you could nominate us as your work 'Charity of the Year'. By doing this you can:
- have fun whilst you give to an excellent cause, making a real difference in the UK and East Africa
- boost team spirit by getting people you work with to work together to reach targets
- increase staff morale by letting them know their efforts are contributing to a good cause
- improve the view that your colleagues or staff have of their employer
- gain a variety of opportunities for positive marketing of your employer
- increase your company or organisation's image in the local community
If you would like to nominate READ International as your 'Charity of the Year' please email rose.blackie@readinternational.org.uk
If you need any more help or information about fundraising for us email rose.blackie@readinternational.org.uk
Put out a drop box for employees to donate unwanted books into
We have a partnership with BetterWorld Books which means that they will sell any of the books we receive that cannot be sent to Tanzania online for us and give us half of the profits. Any books that cannot be sold online can be recycled for money.
Email info@readinternational.org.uk to inquire about this.
Want to support us in a more practical way, experience something new, get out of the office or want to help us but not so keen on fundraising? Persuade your employer to give you a paid day off so that you can help us by:
- Collecting books from donating schools
- Sorting books that we have collected to decide whether they can be sent to Tanzania, BetterWorld Books or recycled
Download this letter (coming soon) and give it to your employer to ask for a paid day off with READ and then contact rose.blackie@readinternational.org.uk to find out when and where your help would be most needed.
You can download leaflets and posters to raise awareness about READ here.
READ believes in partnerships. So far we have worked with many organisations, charities and companies to mutually benefit all involved. Some include:
