Charity trustees are the people who serve on the governing body of a charity. Trustees have, and must accept, ultimate responsibility for directing the affairs of a charity, and ensuring that it is solvent, well-run, and meeting the needs for which it has been set up. READs governance structure and processes are in place to protect and advance the interests of the organisation and its relationship with stakeholders. The Board's duty is to set overall strategy, ensure processes are in place to monitor performance and take responsibility for compliance, accountability, transparency and managing risk. Individual Board members bring a mix of core and specialist competencies, which together form a balanced Board which is fit to govern. They are expected to bring these competencies to the Board and to demonstrate their contribution by acting in accordance with the Nolan principles (selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty, leadership) and by acting in the following manner.
